Sunday StyleWatch: Twist-outs!

Twist outs are natural sets that can free your hair! Hair is set by twisting hair while wet, and the twists you create can actually be worn as a style all on their own! When worn for a couple of days, a new style is born as you untwist your natural hair and rock a twist out! Boy oh Boy I can't wait! Mahogany Curls had a great video about this....ENJOY!

Happy Sunday!

Transitioning Tips!

I normally do my own tips of the week, but this video was so great that I had to share! I know transitioning can be a frustrating experience at times when dealing with two textures, but it'll all be worth it in the end. This woman's curly coils certainly show us that! Stay tuned for DPrincess28's Tips on Transitioning to Natural Hair from Relaxed Hair!

Sunday StyleWatch: Senegalese Twists

After I BC in December, this is the first style I want to throw my tresses in! I want to spend a year after I BC doing the Crown and Glory Method so I can focus on hair health and hair growth without styling my natural hair so much. Plus, I'm sure I'll have the Winter Hair Blues by then, anyway so...we'll see how it goes! Until then I will be stalking Youtube for Styles to Watch and Styles that I need to learn when I start styling my natural hair!

Below is a tutorial on Senegalese Twists for all you DIYers out there! Enjoy!

I'm out!

Bald Spot? WTF? REALLY???

Yes, ladies...I found a bald spot...a shiny, non-follicle having bald spot! OMG...I have been wondering why that area was looking thin for dare I say it...more than two years! I know that's a long time not to notice a bald spot...but I never part my hair straight down the center! I prefer the side bang! About two years ago, though, my hair was a tangled nightmare in the making. I had individual braids done and they ripped out my edges. I mean those things did some DAMAGE! If my hair was a car...it would've been totaled and they have never recovered! :( Well, my hair was looking mighty thin near the center of my forehead, but I just assumed that the braids thinned that area out some, too. Little did I know that when I parted my sew-in earlier this week that a greasy bald spot was waiting to surprise me! Any ideas on how I can stimulate some growth or is it a lost cause?!?! Man...oh...man...WTF! I'm thinking that I'm going to see if aloe works wonders like those articles said it does....a month from now...we'll see if there's a difference...God, I hope so!

In other news, the sew-in is great besides the fact that I have the itchies! I'm out!

BTC's Follow Friday: #FF @NaturalHairRule #NaturalHair

@NaturalHairRule is certainly a tweep that has a good head (of hair) on her shoulders. I find my way to her blog all the time, and I would be lying if I didn't say that the Hairstyle How To section tends to send me into a clicking frenzy from time to time. I am certain that when I BC in December I will have plenty of edgy styles to choose from. The advice and general conversation found on the site Natural Hair Rules catches my attention every time I visit. When you get a chance check her out on twitter and on her site! I like it a lot, and I'm sure you will, too.

Happy Follow Friday Tweeples, Bloggers, and Vloggers!

Product Wish List: Eco Styler Gel with Olive Oil

Everyone that I see on forums speaks so highly about this gel. I can't wait to see how it defines my hair texture and my curls. I was so excited to try this product that I didn't realize that there were different types of Eco Styler gels. I actually purchased the black gel when I should have purchased the clear gel with olive oil in it. I'm fighting the urge to run on down to Sally's and snatch up a tub of gel, but I've been a PJ far too much lately, so this will have to wait. This will be the NEXT product that I am going to purchase in the future, though!

Description (provided by http://www.sallybeauty.com/):
•Contains 100% pure olive oil
•No flaking, no tack and anti-itch
•For use on any color hair
•Alcohol-free
Eco Styler Olive Oil Styling Gel contains 100% Pure Olive Oil for deep down conditioning while maintaining maximum hold. Contains UV Protection and helps your scalp regulate its' own natural moisture system. For all hair types. Used by professionals.

Here is a picture of the gel that I should have purchased!

Question of the Week: Is Natural Hair a Fashion Fad or a Deliberate Decision?

Natural heads are popping up everywhere, and I am excited! My friend and I were actually having a conversation about this yesterday. We noticed that we could easily spot afros, puffs, and twists as soon as we left our house--whether we were on our way to work or out running errands. A couple of years ago this would not have been the norm! Are we turning a new page in life and accepting that OUR beauty is indeed beautiful? Or is it just a fad that won't last long?

Feel free to leave your thoughts below!

Why did you go natural?
Why do you think so many other ladies have decided to free themselves from relaxers and go natural?

Top Shelf Hair Care!

This is just my a list of books that I've been itching to read! I need as much information as I can on styling natural hair and dealing with my hair's texture (once I figure out what it truly is). So, I guess this is my chance to get literal with my hair care!
  • Wavy, Curly, Kinky by Deborah R. Lilly
  • Plaited Glory by Lonnice Brittenum Bonner
  • No Lye by Tulani Kinard
  • Good Hair by Lonnice Brittenum Bonner
  • Textured Tresses by Diane Da Costa
  • Going Natural: Falling in Love with Nappy Hair by Mireille Liong-a-kong
  • Thank God I’m Natural by Chris-Tia E. Donaldson

Well, I'm out! Decided to keep it short, but pleasantly sweet today! Happy Reading! I'm about to start reading a few of these right now...I actually have Plaited Glory in my hands as we speak!

Dye-namic Decisions

Ok...I just dyed my hair jet black! It's not permanent! Thank Heavens!!! It's only a rinse...I have yet another sew-in. I just did it yesterday, and I will continue to do my aloe rinses just not as often as I would have liked to do them. That is all...lol I'm out! HHG! Here's a pic of my style!

And here is a tutorial video about applying a color rinse! I had no idea how to do this at all...so a BIG THANK YOU goes to MissLaShonda on YT!

Growing Pains!!!

I keep looking at my hair and wondering what in the world I'm going to do with it. I started my transitioning journey with a very short assymetrical cut. My relaxed hair has already popped off in some areas in the back. I am supposed to be going to a Trey Songz concert and after party this weekend. What the world am I gonna do. I have halfwigs, but even they are starting not to blend in with my natural new growth, and I don't want to spend anymore money!!!

What's a Transitioner to do??? If you have any ideas...Comment....HELP MEEEEE!

I started off with a cut very similar to this....

I don't want to BC right now either. :(

April Aloe Vera Challenge!

I must admit that my hair has been dry dull and limp lately, and I have been lookin high and low for a solution. I also have been looking for something that would promote hair growth at the same time. I do realize that there is no magic potion that takes me from one inch of unstretched new growth to a BAA or a Foxy Cleopatra Afro Puff...but a girl can dream, can't I?!?! :)

I did stumble upon Nature's Miracle Worker--Aloe Vera, though! I have heard of other Naturals using Aloe Vera Gel for curl definition and slicking down their hair into buns, but when I walked past an endcap in Walmart and saw a HUGE container of Aloe Vera Juice for $7.98, I had to do a double take so...I did some research!

Aloe Vera Juice or Aloe Vera Gel can actually be used to:
  • Relieve stress (which we all know is great for the hair)
  • Increase blood circulation to the scalp
  • Give hair shine
  • Moisturize and Condition the scalp and hair shaft
  • Prevent Hair Loss
  • Promote Hair Growth
Some people even use Aloe Vera Juice as a daily hair treatment by massaging it into their scalp, covering it with a plastic cap, and letting it sit for 30 minutes. Then they rinse their hair and reap all the rewards of using Aloe Vera Juice, and starting today I will be one of those people!!!!

I will be doing this treatment as much as possible from April 5th to May 5th, and hopefully, my hair will thank me for it! I'll update you on my progress from time to time, but be sure to subscribe and follow me on my journey! Feel free to comment on this post if you have done this treatment before or would like to join this challenge with me!

Happy Hair Reading and Growing,

Mane.Maven.of.the.Month: Laura Izibor

What can I say? Her hair speaks to me, and her voice is wonderful. I love her curl pattern and the curly fro that she's often seen rockin'. I've heard plenty of her songs, but I never knew the face behind the music. Her hair is just as amazing as her voice. This Irish songsTRESS definitely has a lot going for herself!

Style Profile...

Okay...since my last post (which was soooooooo long ago), I have been wearing a halfwig that's styled into a shoulder length bob. It's driving me crazy, though. I prefer sew-ins because I don't want to deal with my hair at all right now! I'm so...BUSY! Anywho, I will be doing a sew-in next week, and this time I hope it will last me 8 to 9 weeks. The curly weave I had before did not cut it for me. Better luck next time--I suppose. I will post pictures assuming that I actually like the way my hair looks! This is what I'm going for:

* I don't want it to be so bluntly cut, though. We'll see how it turns out!*

I'm planning to do protective styles until December 29! I'm excited because I'm going to BC on that day as well. I hope this personal challenge brings me lots of healthy new growth!

In other news, I'm still trying to figure out how to regrow my edges so if anyone has any ideas, I'm all EARS. I've been using Profectiv's products designed to regrow hair every day and TWICE a day...I'm going to use it faithfully until I don't have any more left so hopefully, I'll see some growth. Until then I'll be extremely careful with my fragile edges!
